When to use AI agents (and when not to)?
So, to understand when to use an AI Agent, basically I’m going to use it for tasks where I wouldn’t use traditional automation and that are currently being performed by humans.
But in which types of tasks exactly? Not all, because AI is not replacing people completely, but some.
So when is it worth using AI Agents on my team? And when isn’t it?
This is already a management decision. Management of Artificial Resources.
Let’s set AI aside for a moment and think about how a company acts with its human resources.
For example, a company has to decide: is it worth putting a night security guard or risk the company not being monitored at night? It’s a decision based on various parameters and on a decision analysis of the company.
Or when a company hires an assistant for a more senior employee, with the goal of boosting that employee’s work into areas they’re not currently reaching. It’s another decision of allocation of human resource.
You have a very good manager in a department that’s growing very fast. Is it worth pulling them out to try to solve and allocate them to a department that’s struggling and demoralized, trying to fix the problem, but at the same time risking causing a problem in the department that was already growing?
Now, returning to AI Agents, the management of these artificial resources has its own analyses, its own parameters, and often also conflicts with the analyses of human resources.
For example, is it worth putting in another human attendant or an AI chatbot?
In the maintenance area, invest in another person or spend more on AI tools?
In content creation, is it worth hiring another writer or setting up a writing team with AI Agents?
To make these decisions, you need to have knowledge, mainly of the differences between human resources and AI Agents.
Because to make strategic choices, you need to think about the unique characteristics of each type of resource.
And make that comparative analysis.
That’s exactly the topic of our next chapter.
There, we’ll start by highlighting the main differences between humans and AIs.
The goal is to develop in you this comparative thinking, which will help you decide when to use and when not to use AI Agents.
We’ll also look at practical cases and clear examples to illustrate these differences.
So, if you want to delve deeper into this crucial question of when to use AI, move on to the next chapter!
