Chapter 3 — Department of Artificial Resources

Creativity and variation of thought

Creativity: humans have it, machines don’t. Right?

For a long time, we believed in this idea.

Artificial intelligence would be logical, fast, efficient… but not creative.

Today, we know that’s not true.

AI can not only be creative, but can surprise us with its creativity.

But it’s important to understand: AI’s creativity doesn’t work like human creativity.

Human beings create from experiences, emotions, personal references, lived context.

AI, on the other hand, generates variations.

It combines patterns, reorganizes ideas, explores possibilities within what it was trained on.

And this can generate extremely creative results.

There’s even a technical parameter called temperature, which controls the degree of variation in AI responses.

But you will very rarely need to directly work with this.

The main point here is: AI is creative, and you should explore that creativity in processes that require it.

Think about building a script for an advertisement.

Or about creating a strategy for a company.

These are tasks that involve creativity, brainstorming, non-deterministic analyses.

That’s where AI’s creativity shines.

It can help us expand our own thinking, to consider possibilities we hadn’t imagined.

The lesson here is simple: don’t avoid using AI when creativity is needed.

On the contrary, AI can be a powerful tool to drive innovation in your organization.
